30 Indian-Linked Ships Pass Through Hormuz

Maritime traffic in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz has started normalising after the recent Iran-US understanding. So far, 30 ships linked to India have safely passed through the strait, while 26 others are waiting to cross.

Nearly half of these ships were carrying LPG and LNG. Eight carried bulk cargo and seven were loaded with crude oil. Seventeen of them were foreign-flagged vessels.

According to shipping ministry sources, 26 more India-related ships are currently in the Gulf region waiting to cross. Between March 1 and June 17, only 19 ships had crossed the strait. After the MoU, 11 more ships passed safely in just a few days.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global energy supply, handling nearly 20% of the world’s oil and gas. It is especially important for India’s LNG and LPG imports.

The reopening has brought relief to global energy markets, with oil prices dropping to their lowest levels since the conflict began.
