Double Attack by ICC on England

📅 June 23, 2026 🏷️ Cricket
England suffered a major setback after their heavy 253-run defeat to New Zealand in the second Test at The Oval. The ICC has deducted 12 World Test Championship points for slow over rate. Players have also been fined 50% of their match fees.

England were found 12 overs behind the scheduled rate. Interim captain Joe Root accepted the mistake, so no formal hearing was needed. England now have 38 points from 12 matches in the 2025-27 WTC cycle and their percentage has dropped to 26.39.

New Zealand, on the other hand, moved to fourth place with 40 points after this win. Matt Henry was named Player of the Match for his 11 wickets.

Meanwhile, Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson have been cleared to play in the decisive third Test starting June 25 at Trent Bridge. The night club controversy has, however, raised serious questions about team discipline and management.
