‘Fire’ Raining Over 800 Cities in Europe

📅 June 28, 2026 🏷️ International
Europe is experiencing an intense heatwave with many countries recording their hottest June ever. Scientists say climate change has made such extreme heat nearly 100 times more likely.

Data from over 800 European cities shows that nearly 45% are facing extreme heat stress in late June. Night-time temperatures have remained dangerously high, offering little relief.

While El Niño contributes to global warming, experts say greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels are the primary driver. The average global temperature has already risen by 1.4°C since pre-industrial times.

In 2022, over 60,000 people died in Europe due to heat. Scientists warn that without urgent action to reduce emissions, such deadly heatwaves will become more frequent and severe in the coming years.
