India's First Hydrogen Train Launched in Haryana

In a landmark move for sustainable infrastructure, India has officially launched its first hydrogen-powered train. Flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this train is set to revolutionize rail travel by eliminating carbon emissions associated with traditional diesel engines.

### Key Technical Specifications:
* **Eco-Friendly Mechanism:** The train generates electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, emitting only water vapor and heat. It is a cleaner alternative to diesel and coal-powered engines.
* **Capacity & Design:** As the world's largest hydrogen train, it features 10 coaches (2 driving power cars and 8 passenger coaches) with a total capacity of approximately 2,600 passengers and 682 seats.

* **Route:** Jind to Sonipat (89 km).
* **Speed:** Operational speed of 75 km/h (designed for up to 110 km/h; touched 120 km/h during trials).
* **Efficiency:** Covers 250 km on a single hydrogen refill; consumes about 300 kg of hydrogen daily.
* **Frequency:** Conducts two round trips per day, totaling 356 km.

### Infrastructure & Future Plans:
* **Refueling:** A dedicated, state-of-the-art hydrogen refueling plant has been established in Jind to support daily operations.
* **Heritage Routes:** Following this successful rollout, the Indian Railways is considering introducing hydrogen trains on heritage routes, such as the Kalka-Shimla line.
* **Affordability:** Tickets for the journey are priced between ₹5 and ₹25, making it a highly accessible mode of green transport for the public.

This initiative marks a significant step forward in India's efforts to move away from diesel dependency, following the achievement of over 99% electrification of its broad-gauge railway network.
