India-US Trade Deal Likely to be Finalised Soon?

A major update has emerged on the India-US trade deal. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer is visiting India this week to hold detailed discussions with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and other senior officials.

Both sides will discuss the interim trade agreement and joint statement under the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). This visit follows the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on February 13, 2025.

Bilateral trade between India and the US has already crossed $190 billion. Both countries have expressed desire to further boost trade. India is likely to push for lower tariffs, while the US is seeking better market access for its agricultural products.

An interim trade agreement has already been announced, but the full bilateral deal is still under negotiation. Officials are hopeful of finalising the deal soon.
