Khamenei’s Funeral: A Journey of Mourning Across Borders

The final journey of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on February 28, 2026, will begin on July 4. His body will be taken on a 3,000 km journey covering Tehran, Qom, Najaf and Karbala in Iraq, before burial in Mashhad on July 9.

This grand procession is being described as a historic event to showcase unity, resistance and Shia solidarity. It is also seen as a political message of strength by Iran after the conflict with Israel.
