Right Time to Plant Moringa (Sahjan) as Nutritious Green Fodder for Livestock

📅 July 22, 2026 🏷️ Agriculture/Animal Husbandry
Ensuring a continuous supply of nutritious green fodder is a major challenge for livestock owners. Experts recommend cultivating Moringa (Sahjan) as an ideal, nutrient-rich solution for cows, buffaloes, sheep, and goats.

Key Highlights of Moringa Fodder Cultivation:
- Ideal Planting Season: Summer and the monsoon season (such as July) are optimal for planting Moringa. Instead of letting it grow into a full tree, seeds should be sown closely at intervals of 30 to 45 centimeters.
- Harvesting Schedule: The first harvest can be done after 90 days (when it reaches 8 to 9 feet in height), followed by subsequent harvests every 60 days. Pruning should be done 1 to 1.5 feet above the ground to encourage fresh branch growth.
- Utilization & Pellets: Both the tender leaves and soft stems are relished by goats and livestock. Farmers can feed the leaves directly and convert the soft stems into pellets to store and ensure year-round fodder availability.
