Stricter Rules on Foreign Donations in the Name of Religion

📅 July 2, 2026 🏷️ India
The Centre has implemented the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Rules, 2026 (FCRA 2.0). The new rules bring stricter monitoring on foreign funds received for religious, social, educational and cultural activities.

Key changes include:
• Clear list of permissible religious activities
• Complete ban on use of foreign funds for religious conversion
• Stricter norms for foreign nationals in key positions
• Mandatory disclosure of social media accounts and publications
• 75% utilisation requirement before next instalment

The government claims these steps will increase transparency and prevent misuse of foreign funds while protecting national security and social harmony.
