7 Pots, 1 Chulha: The Amazing Science Behind Jagannath Mahaprasad

The world’s largest kitchen at Jagannath Temple in Puri follows a unique cooking method. Seven earthen pots are stacked one above the other on a single traditional chulha. Surprisingly, the topmost pot cooks first, followed by the others in descending order.

This happens due to an ancient Indian engineering technique called Steam Trap Technology. The special design of the pots allows steam to rise and create maximum pressure in the top pot, acting like a natural pressure cooker.
