Indian cricket team for T20 series against Ireland & England and Asian Games 2026 announced


The Indian cricket team for the upcoming T20 series and Asian Games 2026 was announced on Saturday. While Shreyas Iyer has been appointed the new T20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav has been surprisingly left out of the squad.


Ajit Agarkar’s Explanation


Speaking about the big decision, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar said the selectors are looking at the next two-year cycle and long-term future of the team.


“The decision was not easy. Suryakumar’s current form was also a factor. We have taken this call keeping in mind the future of the team,” Agarkar stated.


He also praised Shreyas Iyer, saying he has been in excellent form and has shown great leadership qualities.


Suryakumar Yadav’s Captaincy Record


Suryakumar Yadav had an impressive record as T20I captain with 40 wins in 52 matches and a win percentage of 76.96%. He led India to victory in the Asia Cup 2025 and the 2026 T20 World Cup.
