Drought-like Conditions Emerge Across India

📅 June 30, 2026 🏷️ Weather
The southwest monsoon remains significantly weak across India. States like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are facing drought-like conditions with deficient rainfall.

Skymet Weather expert Mahesh Palawat said the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is currently neutral with a slight positive bias, but it is unlikely to counter the impact of El Niño effectively.

Good news: Widespread to heavy rainfall is forecast across most parts of the country between July 1 and 10, except in parts of western Rajasthan and Gujarat. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely in several regions.
